Whispered Interpreters

In whispered interpreting, the interpreter speaks simultaneously with the speaker but generally does not use any special technical equipment. Whispered interpreting is suitable for very small groups, such as interpreting at factory tours or press conferences (when only one person needs interpreting). However, whispered interpreting cannot replace simultaneous interpreting, as the original speaker and interpreter speak at the same time in the same room, inevitably leading to interference. Because whispered interpreting requires the same or even more concentration than simultaneous interpreting, two interpreters per target language are also needed for longer events.

The Rushiti interpreting and translation agency recommends the use of personal guidance systems (whisper systems) even for small groups. This allows several people to hear the interpretation simultaneously.
